Southport General Cemetery

Since 1880 the beautiful Southport General Cemetery has been the final resting place for residents of the Gold Coast. Located on Queen Street, Southport General cemetery boasts lush green surrounds and well-kept gardens. Historically, some of the earliest recorded graves pre-date 1880, suggesting this area had been an unofficial burial ground for early European settlers. The cemetery is located on Queen Street, which was the original route to the earliest wharf, located on the Broadwater at Southport.

The facility has sites available for burials and ashes placement options in the Ashes Rose Garden which has single, double and family spaces. Monumental burial areas include: General, Infant, Jewish, Islamic, Orthodox, Vault. This is a monumental only cemetery, which means that there are no lawn sites available and need to be accompanied by headstones and markers. A monumental grave can generally accommodate two burials; however ashes can also be interred in the grave. The family accepts the responsibility of maintaining the monument, and it is to be supplied and installed by a monumental mason according to Cemetery rules and Australian Standards.
