Why Choose a Direct Cremation?
Direct cremation is becoming an increasingly popular choice for families seeking a simple, affordable and dignified farewell. Unlike a traditional funeral service, a direct cremation takes place without a formal ceremony beforehand, giving families the freedom to farewell their loved one in a way that feels most meaningful to them.
Many families choose a direct cremation because it removes the pressure of organising a funeral within a few days of a loss. Instead, they can take the time they need to plan a personalised memorial, celebration of life or ash scattering when family and friends are able to come together.
For others, a direct cremation reflects the wishes of the person who has died. Some people prefer a quiet, uncomplicated farewell, while others simply don't want the expense or formality of a traditional funeral service.
Choosing a direct cremation doesn't mean sacrificing care or dignity. At Solace Family Funerals, every person entrusted to us is treated with the same compassion, professionalism and respect as someone receiving a full-service funeral. From the moment your loved one comes into our care until their ashes are returned to your family, every step is handled by our experienced Gold Coast team.
If you would still like the opportunity to say goodbye before the cremation, we also offer private family viewings, allowing family and close friends to spend quiet time together in a peaceful and supportive environment before the cremation takes place.
Whether you're looking for an affordable direct cremation on the Gold Coast, a cremation only service, or simply want the flexibility to hold a memorial at a later date, our family is here to help you create a farewell that honours your loved one in the way that feels right for you.

Cremation Arrangements
Lodge the Death Certificate
Return of Ashes
Arrangements are as simple as a phone call. That's it. We are available 24 hours a day to help you through this emotional time and answer any other questions you may have.
We will then give you a password to access our secure online arrangement form for you to complete.
By completing the online arrangement we are able to use the information to complete all the legal paperwork on your behalf.
If your loved one passes at home, hospice or a nursing home our response will be immediate. If they pass in a hospital with mortuary facilities or are under a coronial investigation we may need to wait until any necessary paperwork is completed. If you aren't in attendance we will let you know when your loved one is in our care.
We will complete all the necessary paperwork and obtain a doctors or coroners permission to proceed. We will let you know when the cremation has been scheduled so that you stay in touch with where your loved one is at all times.
The Death Certificate is lodged by us to the Registry of Births Deaths and Marriages. This information is gathered from the details you provide on our arrangement form. You will need to allow approximately 3 weeks from the day of cremation for the Death Certificate to arrive. This will be sent directly to you from the Registry in the mail.
Once we have the ashes back in our office we will contact you to arrange a time to collect. It is usually a good idea if you are wanting an urn or keepsake jewellery to let us know prior to your attendance, so that we have your loved ones ashes in your chosen urn.

Affordable &
Budget Friendly
Environmentally Conscious
Simplicity During a Difficult Time
This option is the most cost-effective funeral choice. By removing the need for expensive services such as viewings, funeral processions, and other traditional rites, families can save significantly on the overall cost of a funeral. It’s an ideal option for those looking for a more economical way to honor their loved one.
For many, it is also an environmentally friendly choice. With fewer resources used than in traditional funeral services and the use of a basic
eco-friendly coffin, direct cremation helps reduce the environmental footprint of a funeral while still allowing families to celebrate a loved one's life in a way they choose, without the pressure.
Losing a loved one is overwhelming, and making decisions can feel like a heavy burden. This option offers simplicity, removing the need to plan and arrange for a traditional ceremony. It allows families to grieve in their own way, without added stress, and provides the flexibility to hold a personal memorial when they are ready.
Local family care you can trust
When arranging a funeral, many families are surprised to learn that some large, national funeral providers operate primarily as online booking services or call centres rather than local funeral homes. Instead of caring for your loved one themselves, they may arrange for an independent partner funeral home to carry out the transfer, care and cremation on their behalf.
At Solace Family Funerals, we're different.
We are a genuine, family-owned funeral home on the Gold Coast with our own welcoming premises and experienced team. When you contact us, you'll speak directly with the people who will be caring for your loved one—not a call centre or someone reading from a script.
From the moment your loved one comes into our care, they remain with our team throughout the entire process. We don't outsource the arrangements or pass your family from one provider to another. This continuity of care allows us to provide the personal attention, compassion and dignity that every family deserves.
We believe that during one of life's most difficult times, knowing exactly who is caring for your loved one provides comfort and peace of mind. That's why we're committed to offering genuine, local, family-focused care, transparent pricing and the highest level of personal service from beginning to end.
Why more families are choosing Direct Cremation
Direct cremation has become one of the fastest-growing funeral choices in Australia, with more families choosing a simple, affordable and flexible alternative to a traditional funeral service. For many people, it's not about doing less for their loved one—it's about creating the freedom to farewell them in a way that feels more personal and meaningful.
One of the biggest reasons families choose a direct cremation is flexibility. Rather than feeling pressured to organise a funeral within a few days, families can take the time they need to plan a memorial service, celebration of life or ash scattering when relatives and friends are available to attend. This allows the farewell to focus on the person's life rather than a tight timeframe.
Affordability is another important consideration. A direct cremation removes many of the costs associated with a traditional funeral while still ensuring your loved one is cared for with dignity, professionalism and respect. At Solace Family Funerals, our $1,650 Direct Cremation includes bringing your loved one into our care, all professional arrangements, a private cremation and the return of their ashes—with no hidden fees and no additional transfer costs, even after hours.
Many people are also choosing direct cremation because it reflects the wishes of the person who has died. Some wanted a simple farewell without the formality of a traditional funeral, while others preferred that their family celebrate their life in a relaxed and personal setting at a later date.
Choosing a direct cremation doesn't mean you have to miss the opportunity to say goodbye. Many families choose to include a private family viewing before the cremation, allowing close family and friends to spend meaningful time together in a peaceful and supportive environment. Others hold a memorial service after the ashes have been returned, giving everyone the opportunity to gather when the time feels right.
If you're considering a direct cremation on the Gold Coast, our experienced family team is here to guide you through every step. We'll explain your options, answer your questions and help you create a farewell that honours your loved one with compassion, dignity and genuine care—whether you choose a simple cremation only service or a personalised memorial afterwards.
